Note, as of April 2022, we are currently closed for submissions. When we are open, we are happy to receive submissions for Moonfire Publishing, the award-winning independent publisher of fantasy, mystery, and the paranormal. We are interested in manuscripts that take a fresh approach to fantasy, science fiction, horror, the paranormal, and related themes, including humorous treatments of those subjects and genres. We are a global publisher and are distributed through Ingram, in print and e-book formats.
1. Fiction
We are a trade-publishing house, meaning we publish books for general readers available in the book trade). We are generally interested in Science Fiction, fantasy, paranormal, and horror, for our Moonfire Catalog list.
We are looking for novels in the range of 70,000 to 120,000 words. Occasionally, we will consider novellas and chapbooks.
We prefer submissions of completely new works, previously unpublished in any form. If you have a writing project that does not fit these parameters, go ahead and pitch the idea to us.
2. General Guidelines
Your book will stand out, but it’s not required, if you share your other published work in magazines, websites or other online publications related to your area of interest.
It is not necessary to use a literary agent.
Please email your work to submissions@moonfirepublishing.com, and include:
- A synopsis of no more than 3 paragraphs.
- The word count. Please make sure your manuscript pages are numbered
- The whole manuscript, in .doc, .docx or .rtf formats.
- Please include your name and e-mail address on the manuscript itself.
- A writer’s biography, including a summary of previous publications and awards, or other recognition of your writing.
- To avoid any conflict of interest, please tell us if you have also sent your manuscript elsewhere.
Response times: We acknowledge receipt within one to two working weeks. We hope to make decision about publication within two months, and this will depend on the season and number of titles submitted overall. Our editorial team tries to make regular contact with our community of writers, even if publication of an individual manuscript has not been agreed. We strive to support writers and artists, particularly new authors.
Generally speaking we expect to publish simultaneous paperback and e-book editions to the trade market, online and retail stores, and library markets. We cannot guarantee levels of sales but will work hard to promote the titles we release.
We use industry standard royalty contracts, with a reasonable view on electronic rights. We do not pay advances. We do expect to work hand in hand with our authors to market their titles effectively.
